The two-car collision occurred at 5:58 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, in the southbound lanes of the Palisades Interstate Parkway near the New York state line, according to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella.

A 2025 Nissan Rogue carrying four people and a 2019 Honda CR-V were involved in the crash, Musella said.

One of the Nissan’s passengers, a 16-year-old boy from New York was pronounced dead at the scene, said Musella, who did not say where in NY the boy was from. Another passenger sustained serious injuries, while two others suffered minor injuries, Musella said.

All three injured passengers were transported to an area hospital for treatment and later released, Musella stated. The driver of the Honda was not injured, he said.

The crash is being investigated by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Bergen County Fatal Accident Task Force, and the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department, officials said.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Paramus Police, and Tenafly Police assisted at the scene, Musella said. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information was available.
